Chapter 12 Taking What They Each Need

  • Cody took an indifferent glance at Eliza. No longer looking as aroused as he was just now, he picked up the bathrobe at one side and walked to the shower compartment right away.
  • Eliza pouted her lips.
  • It seems that this guy is quite angry. I merely didn’t contact him for three days; does he have to stay mad at me for such a long time? He’s so petty!
  • Eliza rubbed her aching body before getting out of bed in embarrassment, for she didn’t have the courage to act in opposition to Cody at this moment.
  • Instead of following him, she obediently went back to the kitchen, turned the stove back on, and finished preparing the dinner.
  • Cody was drawn by the aroma after taking his shower. He leaned against the door to the kitchen and watched as the person inside was busy preparing food.
  • It would be a lie to say that he wasn’t moved to pity.
  • However, rather than being moved, he preferred to see a panic-stricken Eliza pleading with him in a soft voice.
  • It was just that Eliza always had a flawless expression on her face, and all the shows she put on in front of him were very vivid.
  • Cody discovered after five years that he had never entered Eliza’s heart.
  • They had always been taking what they needed from each other.
  • Eliza turned off the stove and was about to take the dishes out of the kitchen when she saw Cody standing at the door. She smiled at him, as if nothing had happened earlier.
  • “The dishes are ready. We can eat now.” Her voice was sweet and very pleasant to hear.
  • “Uh-huh,” Cody replied nonchalantly in a voice devoid of emotion.
  • Eliza’s heart sank, but she maintained her composure.
  • When she came to Cody’s side with the dishes in her hands, she suddenly paused and kissed the corner of his lips. “Mr. Brooks, you look so sexy in this way.”
  • She blinked her eyes flirtatiously.
  • Then, her slim figure walked away with light steps.
  • Startled for a moment, Cody subconsciously reached out his hand to touch the corner of his mouth—which she had kissed just now—and was lost in thought.
  • After coming to his senses, he was so angry that he laughed instead. He then shook his head while leaving the kitchen after her.
  • Eliza had put the dinnerware and cutlery in place. Not minding Cody’s stony face at all, she kept picking up food for him while looking at him grovelingly.
  • “I have finished peeling the mantis shrimps, Mr. Brooks. Would you like to give them a try?” Eliza handed the mantis shrimps to him. “I nearly scalded myself while frying them.”
  • Cody merely glanced at her without saying a word in reply. However, he ate the peeled mantis shrimps.
  • Eliza pouted her lips without uttering a sound.
  • Still, Cody looked unmoved no matter how hard Eliza tried to flatter him, forcing her to hold back the questions she wanted to ask.
  • She felt so depressed while serving him the dinner that she suddenly had a feeling that what she gained couldn’t make up for what she had lost.
  • She had summoned up her courage and sold her body, yet this guy was indifferent.
  • Most importantly, she couldn’t figure out what he was thinking at all.
  • She pulled a long face and suddenly lost her appetite.
  • At this moment, a peeled mantis shrimp was brought to her lips directly.
  • “Don’t you like to eat this?” Cody raised his brow. “Forget it if you’re not eating it.” As he spoke, he pretended to take the shrimp away.
  • Feeling vexed, Eliza grabbed Cody’s hand. “I’ll eat it. Who said I wouldn’t?” As she spoke, she took a huge bite of the shrimp. “I’m so honored to have you serving me, Mr. Brooks, so how can I not eat it?”
  • “That’s pretentious.” Cody’s comment was simple and brusque.
  • Eliza was speechless.
  • Her eyes flickered, but she decided to be honest in the end. Wrapping her arms around his neck, she rubbed her body against his. “Mr. Brooks, I have apologized and put aside my sense of shame. Can you give the role back to me?”
  • She had behaved pretentiously anyway, so why should she still care about her sense of shame?
