Chapter 9 Appeasing Mr Brooks

  • Eliza was also startled for a moment since she hadn’t come to her senses. “What?”
  • “I’m talking about the film ‘the Keorin Palace,’ the one President Brooks invested in, which Tyler Simpson is slated to direct. You have passed all the auditions and were cast as the film’s heroine, but Reese Watson has now been announced as the person selected to be the lead actress.” Louie was as mad as hell. “How did you offend President Brooks again, lady? Is what you’ve told me before meaningless?”
  • Eliza was silent for a moment.
  • “The Best TV Actress Award is far less valuable than the Best Film Actress Award in this industry, and it’s much more exhausting to win the former. What did you tell me back then? You said you wanted to be an internationally renowned Best Film Actress Award winner, and this was your opportunity, yet what have you done?!” Louie was not only exasperated that Eliza had let him down; he wished he could fly to the other end of the line and give her a hard shake to bring her to her senses. “Why did you mess with President Brooks, now that you’re already his kept woman? If you make him angry, you can’t even scrape a living, let alone win a Best Film Actress Award!”
  • Eliza could hear the anger in Louie’s voice, but she calmed down instead. “I understand.”
  • Having reached the limit of his patience, Louie cursed, “You don’t understand a d*mn thing!”
  • Eliza, who was still holding her cell phone, saw Reese walking toward her as the latter was hardly able to conceal the smugness on her face.
  • After giving Louie a few words as a quick reply, Eliza hung up the phone and stood in place calmly.
  • Pleased with her triumph, Reese looked at Eliza. “Thanks for giving up the role, Eliza. Mr. Simpson intends to submit this film to compete for awards in a few important international film festivals.” As she spoke, she put on a bashful expression. “President Brooks told me to act well in the film. He said he’d give me my due.”
  • “I see,” responded Eliza with a plastic smile.
  • Holding back her complacency at once, Reese growled in a vicious tone, “Stop pretending to be morally superior to others, Eliza Walker. Who doesn’t know that you’re a b*tch? I’d like to see how you’re going to work in this industry without these resources!”
  • Reese was often suppressed by Eliza in the agency, so it would be a lie to say that she didn’t hate the latter. Now that she could turn the tables, how could she possibly let Eliza off?
  • “Miss Watson,” Eliza called out her name unhurriedly. Then, she continued coldly, “You’ve only been announced publicly to play the heroine. It won’t be too late to brag about it when the film starts shooting.”
  • With that, she left in front of Reese right away without sparing the latter’s feelings.
  • Reese kept stomping her foot on the spot in anger.
  • On the other hand, Eliza had taken the elevator to the underground parking lot and driven out of the company. She had something more important to do than quarrel with Reese here just to vent her spleen.
  • Eliza had finished showering 40 minutes later. After donning Cody’s shirt casually, she wore an apron and concentrated on handling the food ingredients on the kitchen countertop.
  • It was because of Cody’s instructions that Reese had forcibly snatched this role from her, of course.
  • Eliza knew that this was the warning and punishment Cody gave her.
  • However, she was unwilling to lose this role no matter what, for this role had nearly gained a foothold in the international movie circle because of Tyler’s glorious reputation.
  • Therefore, what she needed to do now was to appease Cody to snatch this role back.
  • The filming of this movie would take only four months, so her baby bump wouldn’t be very obvious by then. Once she became an internationally renowned Best Film Actress Winner, she would be able to expand her career overseas instead of working within the confines of Lake City.
  • Cody frowned as soon as he entered the house. Following the direction of the noise, he walked to the kitchen.
  • What came into sight was his large shirt that covered Eliza’s upper body and barely concealed her buttocks, causing her straight and fair legs to come within his view.
  • Her shoulders were slightly revealed since the shirt’s collar was too large.
  • He could have a clear view of her body under the shirt.
  • She looked absolutely seductive.
