Chapter 235 Sworn To Protect

  • Serena stood in front of Anna's apartment door with her suitcases at both her sides, the late afternoon sun beginning to fade into a dull evening sky. She hesitated, staring at the peeling paint around the doorframe. Every muscle in her body wanted to turn around and leave. After everything that had happened, she did not feel ready to see Anna yet. Maybe she was making a mistake coming here.
  • She could turn around and leave, but she had nowhere else to go. She certainly could not go back to the hotel she had just left, and she most definitely could not afford to pay for a hotel room or a motel. She had to save every penny she had for when she moved away.
  • Sighing, she raised her fist and knocked softly. The door opened after a few seconds, and Serena's eyes widened almost immediately at the sight of her friend. Anna's hair was messy, tangled like she hadn't brushed it in days. Her skin looked pale and tired, her eyes swollen and rimmed with red.
