Chapter 228 Occupied His Thoughts
- Adriano lay sprawled across the massive bed, the early morning light creeping into the room. He had been staring at the ceiling for hours. Sleep had eluded him again, just like the last two nights. All because of Serena. She occupied his every thought, and no matter how much he tried to get her out of his head, he couldn't.
- To make things worse, he could still smell her delicate scent on the sheets. The sheets were freshly laundered. Adriano had had the help change them yesterday, but no matter how many times they were washed, Serena's scent still lingered. It clung to the cotton like it belonged there. He hated that it was still there. He hated even more that part of him clung to it. He should despise her. He should want nothing but her blood on his hands, her lifeless body at his feet. That was justice. That was what she deserved. She was a traitor.
- And yet, he wanted her. He missed her. The realization that he felt that way made him feel even worse. Every time he thought about the last time he had seen her, dressed in that emerald silk that hugged her curves like a second skin, he remembered the gun in his hand-the same weapon she had used to take his brother's life. He had had the power to end it right there, to punish her for the crime she had committed. He had raised it, his finger curling over the trigger, but he could not pull it.
