Serena tugged on her blouse and adjusted the collar in the mirror. The fabric clung to her skin slightly. Behind her, Adriano lay in bed with his phone in hand and his eyes fixed on the screen. But Serena could feel him watching her. Every time she shifted, bent to buckle her heels, or ran her fingers through her hair, the weight of his gaze pressed against her back.
She applied a red lip gloss, then took a final look in the mirror before stepping away.
She grabbed her purse and her phone, ready to leave. "I am heading to the hospital," she said in a clipped voice.
