Chapter 16 You'll Sign Either Way

  • Serena did not need to look at Rita to know that she was glaring at her. She could feel her sister's glare boring into her skin. Having spent her entire life dealing with Rita, Serena could handle all her tantrums and angry glares.
  • "No. I already agreed to marry Adriano, so stay out of it," Rita growled. If looks could kill, Serena would have been dead on the spot.
  • Serena turned to her sister, all the while maintaining a straight face. "You were never supposed to be involved in the first place. This is between Adriano and me," she said firmly. But knowing Rita, she knew it would take more than a firm voice and a straight face to get Rita to retreat and let the subject go. The indignation burning in Rita's eyes assured Serena of that. She must think that Serena was trying to take away her opportunity to have a better life. But Serena knew there was no better life waiting for Rita if she were to marry Adriano. The man probably did not even know the true meaning of marriage.
