Chapter 141 Working With Him
- The last time Serena had been in the club, she had been locked in a cell beneath it, terrified out of her mind, wondering if she was going to make it out alive. The memory was embedded in her mind like a scar. She remembered the stink of damp moss and decay. But more than anything, she remembered the man in the cell across from hers-the detective. He had been dying. She wondered if he was still down there or lost in a hollow grave somewhere.
- She shivered at the recollection, then forced the thought out of her mind. That was none of her business.
- Stepping into the elevator, she tapped the button to the top. As the elevator began its smooth ascent, she took a slow breath and adjusted her coat, trying to appear composed, even though her heart was racing a mile per minute and her nerves were all over the place.
