Chapter 13

• Monica realized she couldn’t eat without any utensils and turned around, heading to the kitchen. What she heard made her stop, and she peeked through the door frame.
• “Why did you make her leave?” Amely asked, grabbing some chips.
• “This is personal, and I don't want her to get too involved in our world. She doesn't belong here.” Adam clenched his jaw and looked at the counter. Monica’s heart tightened at his words. Even though she was aware he wanted to keep her at arm's length, it hurt when she heard him talk about her this way.
