Chapter 58

  • When he started running, careful not to make too many jerky movements, Monica reveled in the way his body felt under hers. She could feel his taut muscles work, shifting with every move he made. Even under all that soft fur, he was as hard as stone. Spectacular. His kind really was amazing. Awe sizzled in her chest. These creatures were supreme, and no matter what, she was grateful to have met them. Monica breathed in and decided to lift her head to look around. Her skin got goosebumps, and her stomach clenched. There were so many wolves fighting each other, tearing their opponents apart or snapping their jaws at their enemies. The way their bloody fur glistened... It reminded her of all the destruction she had seen until this moment. It reminded her of the impending end. No matter if they came out as victors or losers, this ended tonight. Her eyes caught the sprinting humans and the weapons in their arms, firing at their targets. They were nearly like shadows, mixing in the grim night.
  • Her breath hitched. She felt like a midget. Such a tiny, easy to kill target. Monica pursed her lips, knowing she couldn't afford herself to think like that. She was a survivor, and she was going to pass through this and fight to come out as a winner. Someday, she was going to tell her children about this battle, and she was going to make them squeal with excitement.
  • Adam growled, and she furrowed her brows. When she looked to the front, she saw why he was reacting like this. There was a big fallen log in front of them.
