Chapter 62

  • Monica pursed her lips and sprinted. Her eyes were darting in every direction, but her target was nowhere to be found. Listening closely, she heaved a breath when she confirmed Connor was right behind her. Relief flooded her, but it was quickly replaced with dread when she noticed Helena sprinting towards a wolf that had its eyes focused on her, staring at her like she was its next meal. Helena was a life-saver! When this was all over and they got out alive, Monica was going to buy her a meal.
  • With her limbs still struggling not to remain in one place and become even an easier target, her eyes scanned the area, taking in every small detail. They widened in surprise when they landed on the person she needed. Her satisfaction was short-lived when something jumped at her on her left. Before Monica could realize what was happening, Connor was already shoving her out of the shadow's way and they were tumbling on the ground. The enemy's figure flew over their bodies, its grim size reminding her vividly what she was fighting for. This made adrenaline rush through her veins, making them pump like a ship's engine, and she pushed her friend off her. Turning around, pure horror clasped her bones. The frightening wolf landed on the grass in front of her eyes and turned to glare at her. It snarled, baring its teeth.
  • The way Connor was panting in panic behind her made a shiver run up her spine. Monica tried to squeeze the gun, but her brows absentmindedly furrowed. There was nothing in her hand. She glanced around and, in horror, saw the weapon idly lying in the grass nearby. When had she dropped it? Her heart exploded, its unbelievable fear coursing through every part of her, and she returned her attention to the enemy, wanting to eat them alive.
