Chapter 64 Approaching Him

  • Nelly’s POV
  • I was surprised to learn that I do have a mate. A royal second in charge. Fated mates are rare with our kind, werelions mostly end up taking chosen mates. I should consider myself blessed by the goddess but I’m feeling scared and conflicted. How do I make it known to him? I’m very sure that he can’t even tell that I’m one of them. If we were in my kingdom, I would shift and let him see that we are the same. ‘Will he believe me if I tell him I am a werelion like him and that we are mates?’ I trailed off forgetting that I wasn’t alone even. “I’m going to take a shower, let me leave you to your thoughts Nel.” Said Lucy as she must have realized I was now buried in my thoughts. “Okay Luce.” I said, still reeling in my thoughts. 'I wonder if I should remove my mask for a while. I wish I could talk to my lioness at times such as this!' my thoughts multiplied to a million as I contemplated on what to do. A thought crossed my mind and I decided to be brave enough to approach him. I knew it was not going to be an easy task, bearing in mind that I may be rejected so I decided to just do it straight away. I laid down on my bed and planned how to go about it the next morning. Lucy finished her shower and I guess she saw how engrossed I still was in my thoughts and didn't bother chatting. I tossed and turned throughout the night and couldn't sleep well but I was up early ready to execute my plan. I told Lucy I had something to do therefore I couldn't go and have breakfast with them at the refectory. I went to Tom's dormitory and nervously knocked on their door. My palms were sweaty and needed me to keep wiping them. Malcom came out and greeted me lovingly. You know of the two, I have always thought Malcolm was very calm. His smile reflected his inner being and I wondered how his Lion was. "Hi Mal, can I talk to Tom? Is he around?" I said and he nodded. "Yes, Thomas is around." He said shouting and I guess that was his way of calling Tom up. Mal went back inside while Tom came to the door. They were staying in the Masters' quarters. These are mainly for the Master's Degree students but since it was a private place, anybody with money could stay there. "Hi Nelly? How are you? Is everything okay? How can I help you?" He asked a bunch of questions. "Hi Tom, do you mind if I talk to you for a bit?" I responded. "Yeah, sure! I don't mind. Come on in!" he said as I was still at the door. I cleared my throat. I wasn't going to talk to him in front of his friend. "Do you mind if we take a little walk? I wouldn't feel comfortable inside. I don't mean any offense though," I said to him. "Okay, give me a second, I'll be right back," he said. I nodded. He dashed back inside. These dormitories are designed in a way that they are basically two bedrooms. Mal was in the living room and I thought he must have been wondering why I suddenly wanted to talk to Tom and in private for that matter. Tom came out and we strolled out and went to the park and sat on a chair. "I wanted to tell you something that I know has a potential to shock you. Before I do, I would like you to know whatever I'll be telling you, I had no control over it," I said and he furrowed his brows showing the confusion he had but chose to listen in on. "I think we are mates." I blurted out and his eyes began to bulge out. "What do you mean mates? Do you know?" he asked and I shook my head. "I've always known," I said and he looked at me wide eyed. "How? You are human, aren't you?" he asked. I smiled. "No I'm not, I'm just as lion as you are. I masked mine," I responded. His eyes were literally popping out of their sockets. "Wha… What do you mean?" he asked. And I explained everything to him except the hybrid part. By the time I finished he had a facial expression that ranged from excited, scared, skeptical, and joyous. "A princess of the Eastern kingdom is my mate?" he uttered absent mindedly. "Yes, it looks like that," I responded. He lifted his face, looked me in the eye and said something I hadn't thought of before I revealed my truth to him. "Your lioness is masked?" he asked. I nodded. "Yes, since I shifted," I answered, still not giving it much thought. "Then how did you discover all this? Can she still communicate with you while masked?" Oh boy! How do I explain this one without revealing Lucy’s identity? I paused a bit and he must have seen my discomfort because the next thing he did was put his hand over mine which was nestled on my lap. Tiny sparks of static electricity erupted causing him to quickly retract his hand. I guess that was evident enough to him that I wasn't making this up. I looked at him and decided to tell him my truth rather than telling Lucy's truth before time. "Though I'm fully werelion, I'm also fully a witch. That is the power I've been using to mask my lioness." I said to him and his jaw hit the floor at that moment.
