Chapter 58 It's Just Cake

  • Ignoring the group of sophomore females chatting loudly next to the neighboring automobile, Tyrone was leaning against the hood of his car. Pushing back by the slight wind, his hair fell across his forehead to reveal an intensely focused expression. The girls would purposefully scream with laughter every few moments, but Tyrone was too preoccupied to look up from his phone.
  • The tenth graders were too young to recall, and no one had cautioned them against it. They had no idea how foolish they looked, attempting to attract the attention of a person who would never give them more than a cursory glance—after all, they had been in middle school when Tyrone started his fall from grace.
  • One by one, their heads twitched toward me as I got closer to Tyrone, and they glared back at me. I laughed silently as I returned my attention to my best friend's brother and saw the look of concentration fade from his face.
