Chapter 28 Inside Jokes

  • I pulled a chair from one of the empty desks around Tyrone's table and settled down next to him as the smell of warm, delicious cakes filled the room. We didn't feel like baking during our brief period today, so we just told Ms. Wilson that we would be spending the next forty minutes organizing the lessons for this week. She grudgingly agreed that it would be okay.
  • Tyrone's chest rose and fell quietly, only now his head was pressed face down into the pine desk. He let out a gentle snore, and as each one passed, the surge of air caused his hair to fly out of his eyes and fall back down. He shifted to a more comfortable position, and I rolled my eyes at him. Taking out a notepad, I leafed through one of the many cookbooks lying around the classroom and looked through the dessert section.
  • Our previous baked goods, which included banana cakes, chocolate ripple cakes, sour cream cakes, and sponge cakes, were very tasteless in comparison to the creations of the other groups. They were experimenting with towering cakes and even creating wedding cakes; they were going crazy with their arrangement! Even though there was no rivalry, it sure seemed like one as each group slyly glanced over its shoulder to see what the other partners were getting up to.
