Chapter 12 Last Night
- "About last night..." she trailed off, a pitying expression taking over her face as she bit her glossy, red lips. "I'm sorry you had to see me like that. It's just that sometimes, you know, it gets a bit too much and..."
- When she fell silent once more, her voice was hardly audible. At her agonized expression, my heart tightened. I got up and walked over to her, putting my arms around her shoulders. Fortunately, I was not quite as short as her because I inherited my father's genes for his enormous height. She was still about three inches shorter than me, even in heels. I was taller than most girls, but nothing compared to the giants at school, like Mark or Tyrone, who were each a full head taller than me.
- I repeatedly told her, "It's okay, Mom it's okay," as I gently stroked her back in little circles.
