Chapter 68
- I can feel my mate’s body pressed against mine, the feel of hands as they reach for mine, reassuring me that he’s there and that he’s never going to abandon me. I can hear our shallow breathing as we push ourselves against the walls, hoping to be unseen. A large snarl sounds and then we see it. A large wolf entering the cave, its body dragging something with it, a large body of some description. I vehemently hope that it’s an animal carcass, the wolf’s back to us. The wolf itself is big, but grey and white. That means it’s not an Alpha. I exhale slowly, feeling disappointed, for that meant the wolf could not be Alpha Leon. Part of me however is relieved. At least I won’t have to face him, not yet. One day I will…and when that day comes so will my revenge and retribution.
- The wolf drops the body onto the ground with a heavy thud. I see it’s ears prick forwards and swallow hard. It turns slowly on its heels, its eyes beginning to search. It knows it has visitors. I glance at Cody who looks slightly worried before I step forward, my shoes thudding softly on the ground. The wolf instantly lets out a ferocious roar. I don’t hesitate. I shift into my Lycan form and meet the wolf head on. I throw it across the cave, listening with satisfaction as it hits the ground in a heavy thud. I move to prevent it from leaving, blocking off the entrance to the cave, while Cody does the same in the opposite direction. The wolf slowly climbs to its feet, eyeing us with hatred. I remain perfectly still, allowing the wolf to come to me.
- It lunges towards me. I sidestep and then lash out with a hind paw, hitting it in the chest. I wince as I hear the sound of bones breaking, having got its collarbone. I whirl around and use my claws to strike across its midsection, causing it to let out a howl of pain as it staggered backwards. I use my momentum to continue, moving so fast I’m a blur, attacking it with several lashes, before my jaws clamp around its neck. I will whoever this is to submit to me, to surrender. There’s no pride in death. The wolf struggles in my grasp. Cody continues to watch, concerned but then it happens. The wolf lowers itself to the ground as I allow my aura to push against him. I wait for a long moment and then I shift, lowering to the ground.
