Chapter 7
- The jet was getting ready to land. Looking out of the window, Iris could not believe how significant the capital was. All of the buildings look like tiny little figurines that her friend Jordan used to collect. Sitting back in her seat, she buckled up as Jayden had already completed that task.
- He chuckled out loud, “You are going to love it here!” Though Jayden had not personally been to the Capitol yet, he had been on plenty of business trips with his father. “The time difference shouldn’t bother you that much. Though you might feel it tomorrow!” Jayden warned as they felt the plane descend.
- Iris gripped the armrest as she closed her eyes, reminding herself that this was no different from a rollercoaster. Something that she did not particularly enjoy. Breathing in and out slowly, she knew that this would all soon be over, and she would be safely on the ground.
- Iris finally opened her eyes. Releasing her death grip. With the plane coming to a rolling stop, Jayden was quick to unbuckle himself from his confinement. Laughing, “You will get use to this. After a while this will be nothing.” He got to his feet and patted Iris on the shoulder.
- Getting to the plane door, Jayden opened it up. While standing beside a black car, a group of the Alpha Kings guards waited outside. Whistling, “I knew Alpha King James was going to make sure Iris was safe but I didn’t realize he would go to this extent.” he whispered to himself.
- Iris was looking over Jayden’s shoulder. “Mr. Collins had already told my father that the witnesses were well protected. It appears that someone had gone to him and several of the jury members threatening them. I guess this is the Alpha King’s way of making sure nothing happens from now until the verdic.”
- Jayden had taken the first step as Iris waited for there to be at least three steps between them. As she walked down, she noticed that the Alpha King’s men had opened the car door. Only when she was standing on the ground. Glaring into the car, her heart began to flutter. Glaring right back at her was Prince Mael.
- Jayden noticed that Iris seemed a bit flustered. “Is everything alright?” he asked, placing his hand on the midsection of her back.
- Taking a step toward the car, “yeah! Just the jitters over meeting Alpha King James.” she glanced briefly at Jayden. Needing a break from the prince's intense stares and scowling. “This is a huge deal for my father. Even my grandmother said that if I can manage not to piss off Alpha King James she will give me a plot of land that has a cottage on it.”
- Snickering, “insentive to behave yourself!” Jayden commented
- As they neared, Iris was the first to lower her head, and she slid in beside the Prince. Holding her breath, she watched every muscle in his face twitch as Jayden slid in beside her. For a brief second, she thought she had heard Prince Mael’s wolf growl when Jayden placed his hand over hers.
- Clearing his throat, "I will have my men collect your belongings from the jet and have them bring the items to the palace." Prince Mael’s eyes softened as he kept them on Iris.
- Iris nodded her head as Jayden continued to smile. “Daddy messaged me while we were heading here that Alpha Black O’Donnoly has arrived to the Capital.” Iris watched as Prince Mael raised a brow. Understanding his reaction, she continued, “daddy said your father had warned him. Also daddy has ordered me to be nice … not bitchy nice!”
- Prince Mael could not suppress the smile forming on his face. Paul was not the only one who has done a bit of digging into Iris O'Brian. With all the research he had gathered on Iris. It had become clear that when she decided that she was going to get in a mood, everyone knew what was bothering her. How she was going to handle it. And if there were any issues, she would aid them to the door if needed. “Has anyone gone over the protocol of how you greet the Alpha King?” his tone was warm.
- Jayden piped up, “my mother had gone through the things that Iris needed to know. However with Iris finishing her exams, there wasn’t much time to teach Iris about the other things a Luna needs to know.”
- Both men watched as Iris rolled her eyes. “Daddy said I had to be nice, he didn’t say anything else past that.” Mumbling under her breath, “he never said I needed to go to etiquette school!”
- Prince Mael could feel the car moving. “My father is not expecting perfection; he is just demanding the respect his title demands.”
- Iris giggled. "Daddy told me that if I make the perfect curtsy or bow, whatever comes first, he is going to buy me my dream car.”
- He was intrigued; Prince Mael raised a brow, “and that would be?” he was interested to know what she preferred in vehicles.
- It took a lot for Iris not to laugh, “Something that has four wheels … steering wheel and runs off gas! Oh, and preferably in the colour red.”
- Snorting, “you are very demanding!” Prince Mael matched Iris’s temperament. With a smile, “At all times, you will be using this car to travel from the palace to the courthouse. My cousins Maximum and Paul will be accompanying you. Making sure that no Myingan Pack Member comes close to you. As my father had promised your ‘daddy,’ your safety is our concern. Now that we are done with that, do you understand the protocol for meal times?”
- Iris could not resist. "Put the utensil in your mouth and chew well!” she replied, smiling.
- “Iris!” Jayden scolded with a smile on his face. “Yes, your majesty … my mother made sure she had gone over that tidbit of information.”
- Snickering, Iris pulled out of her purse as she. Looking for her father, she began to text. ‘Daddy, I need you to send me the dinner table rules for eating with Alpha King James … I forgot already! *snicker*’ she pressed send.
- Iris was about to put her phone away when her father messaged her back, ‘Good to know you made it to the Capital, alright. And I love you too!’
- Iris noticed that Jayden was watching her. “I messaged Daddy to let him know we are fine.” she shoved her phone into her purse. As the driver of the car continued to navigate the streets. Iris could not help herself. Her head moved as she observed the buildings that they had passed. Amazed by the architect who had gone into constructing the buildings. Many were new. However, there were a few that still had the bones of days past. Giving more flavour to the area.
