Chapter 60

  • She plummeted thirty feet, and we were fortunate it wasn't worse. The wound appears to be healing nicely, which is a good sign. Most of the injured warriors have already gotten back on their feet. "What about Jason?" I asked. "He's awake. With a few more days, he should be out of the hospital too," harvey replied. "Matilda, please wake up," he said softly. "It's been three days, Louis. She should be up by now," I said, worried. "What she did that night took a toll on her health, both physically and mentally. Her body needs time to recover. She should be up soon. Don't worry," harvey called out "Matilda... April?"
  • I had been hearing voices in my sleep, but each time I tried to reach out for them, I would drift back into the void. This time was different, though. Harvey’s voice seemed closer, more real. It was like a string just within reach, close enough to grab and let it pull me out of the darkness. "Can you hear me?" he asked. I followed the sound, feeling my brain awaken from a deep slumber. Memories began to flood my mind. I remembered falling and hitting the ground, but it didn't hurt the way I thought it would. In fact, it didn't hurt at all. I remembered the blood, splattering around like water from a broken pipe. Then, there was silence. Even though the voices had already faded away for me, I was still puzzled by the sudden halt of everything. That's when I saw harvey, covered in someone else's blood, walking towards me with River by his side. Knowing he would be okay was enough, and if this was my end, I was content.
  • He was here. His beautiful voice was so close, and his delicious scent was tantalizing me from not too far away. I wanted to see his face, but the bright light was making it hard to focus. I blinked through the white light, until my eyes finally adjusted.
