Chapter 24

  • Matilda
  • I stepped out of the pack house and was met with a fierce storm. The sky was dark and gloomy, with no sign of sunlight. Every now and then, lightning would strike, illuminating the sky and the thunder would boom, making everything else seem silent. The wind was so strong, I felt like it could take me away. I held my ground and ran back to the house as fast as I could, before the rain started pouring. I rushed up to my room to start packing. The cold wind had dried my tears and I refused to let any more fall. I had given the mate thing a chance, but it just wasn't meant to be. It's so misleading when it comes to mates, or maybe my family is just cursed. I couldn't remember where I had parked my car or where the keys were, so I had to make do without them.
  • I need to ask someone for help. I've made a real mess of all my things, so it takes me a while to get everything together and packed. After I'm done, I decide to go look for Louis or Tyler and ask them to help me get my car. I go downstairs and open the front door, but the strong gust of wind nearly blows the door off its hinges and pushes me back in. The snowstorm outside stings my face and I can barely open my eyes as I force the door shut. I realize I'll have to wait until the storm passes before I can leave. With nothing else to do, I decide to make myself some hot chocolate to take my mind off of the events of the past few days. I grab a blanket and sit down in one of the chairs at the far end of the living room, next to the giant window. The storm looks almost beautiful from here. It's only when you're in the middle of it that you realize how powerful it really is.
