Chapter 62 Till We See Again

  • Ashina felt numb. She could not believe it. She could not comprehend it. I so much wanted to believe it was some sort of prank the family was trying to pull on her, but with the looks on their faces, With Leslie's intense sobbing, she knew it was true. No reaction has been sparked by Ashina. The Princess even wondered how she would've reacted if she had not. She just couldn't see it happening. She had been stunned by King Roy's confession about having about a year left to live, and since then she had been quiet, not knowing what to say or feel. It was yet to hit her. The palace was going to feel empty without the king. She might have only known him for a few weeks, but she had seen that he was the harbinger of change not just in Scyta but in both kingdoms. If not for him, the wolves would have still been at war, and then the berserkers were probably going to take them all down with ease after they had exhausted themselves. It was thanks to him that Ashina was in this union, and even though she didn't quite like it, she saw what he saw. The good in it. King Roy had left a mark on her, so she definitely was going to feel the loss of him. Every wolf was going to and in generations to come, his story was going to hold more weight than the union between Arthenis and Scyta because he kick-started it. It had only just dawned on Ashina that the situation in the palace was way worse than she thought. They had very little time.
  • “You've had that look like you saw a ghost since we left my father's chambers. What is up with you?” Juan, who walked by Ashina's side, asked. It ticked her off that Juan seemed to underplay the issue at hand, and that it was about his own father. Ashina chose to ignore his question, and Juan rolled his eyes.
  • “We've known this for quite a while and we have come to terms with it. Taking care of making sure he lives his remaining life to the fullest is what we're doing now. His only wish is for the both of us to mount the thrones and then ensure peace reigns in our kingdom forever. One of the reasons why I mellowed down for this marriage is because he wanted it, and with his good reason, I can't deny the dying man his final wish. He once told us that his health partly motivated his desire for peace between our kingdoms. He wished to build a legacy with his remaining time, and it's great that that's happening. We have no time to worry and wallow in sadness. We are all saving that for... for after he leaves,” Juan explained, his voice falling to a whisper. Ashina mindlessly nodded her head slowly. It makes so much more sense now.
