Chapter 12 Looking Death In The Eyes

  • The room fell silent. The only thing that could be heard was the sound of droplets of wine striking the ground from Prince Juan's head. Ashina stood still and kept staring at him with her brows furrowed. She was infuriated, yet scared. Her heart raced because she knew she had done it, but she didn't regret her action. She felt he deserved even more. No one was going to get away with speaking ill of their country, not even a Prince. Juan remained calm, and this was quite odd. He looked at himself casually. His cloak and trousers were now wet. The wine trickled down his face. He stuck his tongue out and licked the droplets around his mouth. He maintained a straight face. He raised an arm. Startled, Ashina braced herself, ready to defend herself and counterattack if he did anything. He did not. He only placed it on his hair as if to feel it. He took a look at his palm. as if surprised to see it was wet. Ashina forced saliva down her throat. He was not reacting as she expected. The suspense was killing her. His approach to the incident was calm, yet scary.
  • "Damn. I have wine on my body," he muttered. He looked up at Ashina, and her eyes widened as he met hers. She forced down another gulp of saliva. To her surprise, it wasn't even a cold stare. He showed no emotion. She wondered what was going through his mind, but it was frustrating as she pondered too hard but could not think of anything. This man was unreadable. As if bemused by Ashina's frightened look, he giggled.
  • "Oh, come on, Princess, do you have any reason to fear? I mean, your fingers only slipped somehow, right? You didn't mean to do that, right?" he asked, smiling.
