Chapter 185 Sweet, Soothing Voice

• "He is still at the police station, but with your mother's and a few other people's statements, we have concrete evidence against him; the police are going to conduct a thorough investigation into the case", Patrick informed Alex, and he nodded. "So my mother turned herself in?" Alex asked, and Patrick nodded. Michelle had been more cooperative than he imagined. She told the police every single detail of what happened that day and didn't leave anything out. "Why didn't you tell me you were investigating my mother?" Alex asked, and Patrick swallowed... he started to fiddle with his fingers nervously as he stared at Alex, who seemed calm even though his life was falling apart. The board had called an emergency meeting, and Alex had to show up, but he looked calm and neutral like he had accepted everything that happened and was going to move on with his life... "I wanted to be sure sir about it and I didn't want to just be suspicious..." Patrick said and Alex nodded... he buttoned the last button of his shirt and turned to look at his secretary who had been with him at every step of the way... Alex knew he wouldn't have found out so much about everything with Patrick's help and he was grateful. "thank you," Alex said and a slight smile appeared on Patrick's face. "You don't have to be, sir; I'm just glad you are doing okay", Patrick replied, and Alex nodded and said, "Do I look like I'm doing okay? For some reason, I've accepted what happened because I know I can't change the past... a part of me still feels betrayed, but I have to get past this... I have to for Juliet" Alex said and Patrick nodded and felt utmost respect for Alex. he wasn't sure he would be able to such a betrayal if it happened to him, but he knew Alex had been through a lot since when he was a child and the traumatic events he had passed through was just as bad as what he was passing through now, so he knew exactly how to deal with it and not get lost in it once again... his panic attacks were the side effect of everything and Patrick hoped that one day he would be able to make a full recovery so he could live his life happily with no more troubles and betrayal from anyone... he wanted Alex to be happy for a long time because Alex was a good person and didn't deserve any of the things that he was passing through...
• A soft knock on the door got both of their attention, and Alex's eyes travelled to the door as it was being pushed open.... juliet walked into the room, and a warm smile immediately appeared on her face when her eyes met with Alex's... Dorothy was right behind her and had come to see Alex off as he was leaving... thankfully he looked well...
• "I can see you are all ready to go, Mr Graham", Dorothy said, and Alex nodded. A warm smile appeared on the doctor's face, and she sighed deeply... "You need to take things slowly and avoid anything that can strain you. I've spoken to Juliet here. Please take care of yourself," she said, and Alex nodded... juliet walked to where Alex was standing and took her hand in his. Alex intertwined their fingers and they left the hospital together... Patrick drove them back to their apartment and Juliet convinced Alex to take a nap... she laid beside him so he wouldn't try to leave the room and they both ended up falling asleep together, but the sleep was cut short when Alex woke up with a start because of a nightmare... "Alex! Are you alright!" Juliet said immediately. Her eyes fluttered open, and she saw the state Alex was in. "I'm fine" Alex assured as he ran his hand through his hair and let out a deep breath... Juliet sighed deeply and patted his back soothingly as they laid back down... they both stared at the white ceiling of the room in silence, Alex didn't want to go back to sleep because he knew he was going to be welcomed by another nightmare. "Are you fine" Juliet broke the silence and muttered in a soft voice. Alex didn't answer her question for a while and only found her hand and intertwined their fingers... he brought it up so he could stare at their intertwined fingers... "I'm trying to be, and I keep wondering if I'm ever going to be okay," He said in a low voice, and Juliet immediately tilted her head to look at him. "of course you are. We are going to take things slowly like Dr Matthews said, one step at a time. okay?" She said, and Alex nodded... "one step at a time", he muttered and brought Juliet's hand to his lips and planted a soft kiss on it. "I don't think I would be able to survive without you", Alex said in a low voice, and Juliet turned so she could look at his face well. "You have to", She said firmly, and Alex shook his head and turned to look at her also. "I don't want to, he said firmly also," and Juliet sighed deeply. "I don't think I can, too; you make me complete... I was so terrified when you rushed out of the house..." She said and Alex leaned closer so he could plant a soft kiss on her forehead... "I'm sorry... I wasn't thinking straight then, and all I wanted to do was confirm everything that Joy said... I didn't want it to be true... but I knew deep down that it was..." he said and Juliet's free hand travelled to his face, she caressed it softly and Alex closed his eyes and relished her soothing touch... she meant the world to him and he knew a life without her wouldn't be worth living. She made him want to heal and carry on... she made him want to forget about everything that had happened. he was afraid that she was going to spend the rest of her life dealing with his troubles and as Juliet was mind ready she said "I'm going to stick with you for the rest of my life... I'm not going anywhere okay?" She said and leaned closer and Alex nodded. He knew it would be selfish of him to tell her to stick with him, but he wanted to be selfish if it meant that he could spend the rest of his life with her... "I love you", He whispered close to her lips, and a smile graced Juliet's face... "I love you too," She whispered back and planted a soft kiss on his lips... she wanted to ask him if he would ever go to speak with his uncle, but she decided not to. She wanted him to go at his own pace and do what he wanted when he was ready... he was going to heal; she was going to be sure of that, she vowed as they both lay there staring into each other's eyes and thinking of what the future held for them... But one thing they both hoped for was a life filled with unlimited happiness and no more pains and betrayals... all they wanted was to be happy together with no interruption and distractions... Juliet wanted to grow old with him and have children with him... she wanted a boy and a girl that looked just like him, and the thought of it made her smile.
