Chapter 151 Reasons

  • "I can't do this anymore. I can't even face my son without feeling guilty. It's so hard to breathe freely nowadays, and you keep making it worse for me. Why can't you just freaking let me be? It's been over twenty years already. I want to wake up every day without feeling such an immense guilt pressing on my shoulders, please..." Michelle said in a trembling voice and ended the call before she could get a response. Her phone started to ring just a few seconds later, and she finally lost it; she threw her phone on the chair and let out a shrill scream of anger. Her driver had his back turned to her, and the glass was rolled up so no one could hear her. The finally stopped when she was exhausted, and her voice began to crack. Michelle sat there in silence for over thirty minutes before she finally rolled the glass down to speak to her driver, who was standing at the same spot with his back turned to her. "Let's go," she said in a low voice, and he immediately did as she said. Michelle put on her sunglasses and rested her head. She sighed deeply as he started the car engine and drove away from where they were... "Take me to the company," Michelle said after a while of complete silence. Her heart was heavy and she turned her head to look outside the window as her mind reverted to the past and the choices she had made, choices that she regretted every single day of her life and still haunted her. Even when she closed her eyes, they imagined popping up in her mind. It was clear as day. How could she ever forget... Alex's hand was completely covered in blood, but he wasn't fazed... she could never forget such a thing as long as she lived...
  • "We are here, ma'am" " her driver informed me when they arrived at the company, and Michelle didn't even realise it. She sighed deeply and picked up her bag and the phone that she had tossed away angrily... she made sure her hair wasn't dishevelled and adjusted her sunglasses as her driver held the car door for her, and she came out... it was a sunny afternoon, and many workers were on their way back from their lunch break, including Olivia and Patrick... As they walked into the company building, Patrick immediately saw a woman by Alex's private elevator who looked like Michelle, but due to the population of employees in the lobby, he wasn't sure. But he became sure when he and Olivia arrived at Alex's office and saw her standing there. She was waiting by Alex's door but didn't try to go in. She simply just stood there and stared at the closed door... "Ma'am," Patrick called out to her, and she was a little startled because of this. Michelle turned to see Patrick and Olivia standing behind her... "Oh. Your office was empty, " She said to them and failed at hiding the nervousness in her voice. Patrick.was about to respond, but before he could the door to Alex flew open to reveal Alex, he had a work document in his hand and his sleeves were rolled up, he was looker immense in work and had only come out of his office to see if Patrick or Olivia was back from their lunch break so be could ask them a question but instead he was shocked to see his mother standing in front of his door with Olivia and Patrick behind her... Michelle gripped onto her handbag as she stared at Alex. She immediately took off her sunglasses so she could see him well... thankfully, he looked well, but not one bit happy to see her. "Alex," Michelle called his name softly, and Alex, who wasn't used to hearing her call out to him like that, exchanged confused looks with Patrick, who also looked confused. The only reason Michelle came by the office most of the time was to have an argument with Alex and nothing more. They rarely had a normal conversation because their relationship wasn't the one of a typical mother and son.. "What do you want?" Alex asked coldly, and Michelle felt her heart break a little. "I want to speak to you," She said in a low voice. Alex thought he didn't want to see her walk back into his office, and Michelle quickly followed after him...
  • Patrick stared at Alex's office door in a bit of a daze. He had had someone watching Michelle the whole time, but she hadn't done anything out of the ordinary. What was she hiding... he wanted to know and was almost compelled to ask but couldn't. That would ruin everything and blow their cover. "Are you alright?" Olivia's voice broke through his daze, and Patrick turned to look at her. "I'm fine; I'm just a bit surprised to see her here, that's all; you know she only comes for trouble," He explained, and Olivia nodded, knowing he was telling the truth... "But she looks quite calm today; I don't think she came looking for any trouble; even the way she spoke to Mr. Hult is surprising," Olivia said, and Patrick nodded. It was indeed surprising, or was she planning something of some sort? Did she know that he was onto her and was perhaps trying to fix her relationship with her son before she was found out? Patrick wondered. He didn't know what to expect from someone like Michelle who seemed to have so many secrets and still acted like she was the only victim when she knew fully well that Alex was the main victim in the whole issue... It made him want to find out more about Michelle's hiding, and Patrick could feel that he was getting closer to the truth. "Patrick," Olivia called out to him, and he smiled at her... "We should get back to work,", he said, and she nodded... they both walked back to the secretary's office even though Patrick's mind was on Michelle and the reason she had come.
