Chapter 67
- Chase sits on the floor of his stark and minimalist cell. The walls are cold concrete, painted a dull gray, adding to the sense of desolation. A narrow cot with a thin mattress and a worn blanket sits in one corner, while a small metal sink and toilet are attached to the opposite wall. The only light comes from a single, dim bulb hanging from the ceiling. Lost in thought about Charlotte, he wonders who she really is.
- Soon, he hears footsteps approaching, and a correctional officer appears. The officer unlocks the cell door with a loud clunk and gestures for Chase to step out. Chase looks at him, confused.
- Are you blind? Come out, the officer demanded harshly. Chase gets up and walks towards the door. Grabbing Chase by the shoulder, the officer pulls him out aggressively. "Walk fast; we don't have all day!" he says impatiently.
