Chapter 115
- Mia sat in her cell, her heart heavy with longing, hoping against hope that Liam would come and visit her. She wondered how he was doing, if he was thinking of her, and how he felt about everything that had transpired. The cold, gray walls of her cell seemed to close in around her as she waited, the only sound the soft hum of the fluorescent lights overhead.
- "Hey," a guard said, his voice gruff as he walked towards her cell. He unlocked the door and led her out, his keys jingling in his hand. Mia knew it was her trial day, and she felt a sense of resignation wash over her. She had already confessed to her guilt, so she knew the outcome was all but certain. All she could hope for now was a glimpse of Liam, a chance to see his face and know that he was thinking of her.
- As she followed the guard through the winding corridors of the courthouse, her heart beat faster with anticipation. She scanned the room with her eyes, searching for a familiar face, but her heart broke when she couldn't find Liam. She searched the crowded room again, her eyes scanning the sea of faces, but neither Chase nor Charlotte were there either. Only her parents, who looked at her with sympathetic eyes, were present to offer her support.
