Chapter 93

  • The only sound in the luxurious living room was the soft click of Mrs. Sydney's nail file as she polished her nails. Across the room, Jack was buried under a stack of office documents. His eyes moved quickly, flipping from page to page and pausing as if something in the documents bothered him. He didn't look up at her even once, not even when she sighed heavily.
  • Mrs. Sydney studied him silently. She saw something different in him tonight, almost like he had finally decided to take things seriously. All she wanted was for him to stop being nonchalant and start acting responsibly. Yet, even though she wanted this, she felt a sting of guilt within her.
  • For years, she had kept the truth from him about who his real father his and had revealed it in what she feared was an inappropriate way. She hadn't intended to tell him that way but she was left with no choice. Was it too much for him to handle? Has she gone too far? For a moment, she felt a lump in her throat, emotions rising. But she shook her head quickly, scolding herself internally.
