  • The next morning came slowly, but Mrs. Sydney hadn't slept at all that night. No matter how many times she turned in bed, sleep wouldn't come. She felt restless, with her mind racing full of questions that had no answers. Instead of lying beside her husband in their master bedroom, she had stayed alone in her private room, pacing back and forth. Her heart was heavy, and her thoughts were louder than the silence of the night.
  • Ken's memory had returned, and that was a big problem. In just a few days, he had begun to notice things, ask questions, and observe changes at the firm. This was very dangerous. But how had he gotten to this point? Who had given him sudden access to the company's database?
  • She briefly thought of Thomas but quickly dismissed the idea. Thomas was just an inactive lawyer in their firm; he didn't have any real influence. He was only there because his father had once been good to the Sydney family. There was no way Thomas could have helped Ken.
