  • Ken had been awake since before dawn. The room still felt heavy with last night's thoughts, but he pushed himself to get up. With quiet determination, he moved into the automated wheelchair. A soft mechanical hum helped lift him upright. He rolled into the bathroom and splashed cold water on his face as if trying to wash away the guilt pressing down on him.
  • He had already bathed and changed into a plain grey shirt and loose trousers, comfortable and neat, but it still didn't feel right.
