  • The door creaked open softly. Cynthia walked in with a tray in her hands, the warm smell of breakfast coming in with her like a cozy blanket. The room felt strange and quiet. Ken was sitting on the edge of the bed, and his maid was beside him. Their talk stopped as soon as Cynthia showed up.
  • Ken straightened up quickly, fixing the collar of his robe like he was caught doing something wrong. The maid stood up fast, too, looking down and leaving with a quiet bow.
  • Cynthia blinked, feeling a bit lost, but she didn't say anything. Whatever it was, it wasn't her business—or that's what she told herself. With calmness, she walked over to the small table and set the tray down.
