Chapter 56
- Cynthia sat in the dark interrogation room, deep in thought… She hadn't eaten or drunk anything that had been given to her. A swarm of thoughts clouded her mind. The guilt pierced so deeply, that it felt unbearable. Mrs. Sydney must have planned this all along. She was definitely the one who killed Kate and framed her for it. Cynthia couldn't protect her as she had promised. So, she chose to starve herself for as long as she was held there… maybe even accept life imprisonment because Mrs. Sydney would do everything possible to make that happen.
- She wasn't surprised. She had gotten used to being framed… but Kate… Kate's death tore her apart. Even though the case wasn't clear, she shouldn't have left her, not at all. Where was the gardener? How did the gun get to her room? Was it the day they came to visit? So many unanswered questions made her heart pound painfully fast.
- Earlier, investigators had come in to interrogate her, asking countless questions. One of the interrogators was clearly sent by Mrs. Sydney. He had tried to blackmail Cynthia into confessing she killed Kate, promising to help her if she agreed.
