• ​Agonizing pain surged through Elara’s body with every movement she made. Her eyes felt too heavy to open, and her voice was barely audible, no matter how hard she tried to scream. She felt like an empty shell of her former self. No matter how she tried to reach out for her wolf, she failed miserably; she couldn't feel her strength, her healing, or her power.
• ​“Don't stress yourself, little girl…” a familiar, grating voice said. Elara heard heavy footsteps approaching. She slowly lifted her head, struggling to keep her eyes open, and saw Silas standing before her. For an old man, he was terrifyingly agile.
• ​“What my men injected you with is not ordinary. For now, just imagine you're an ordinary human….no wolf strength, no heightened senses,” he added sarcastically. He drove another needle into her arm. Elara winced as the liquid surged through her veins, causing a severe burn that forced tears down her face against her will. The pain was so unbearable it left her completely limp.
