Chapter 22
- Just then, the thought of Sarah, the little girl suffering from leukaemia, popped into my mind. Still in his embrace, I looked up to his cold face before calling out his name. “Garrett…” he looked down at me, his eyes filled with questions. “Am I permitted to bring strangers home?” My question fell on deaf ears. “I have a little friend. Her name is Sarah. I would love her to come visit me and stay for 3 days,” I added, hoping to sway him with the innocence of a child.
- Garrett’s expression remained unchanged as he listened to me, his silence hanging heavy in the air. I could sense his reluctance, his hesitation to agree to my request.
- “She’s such a sweet girl, Garrett. She’s fighting so bravely against her illness, leukaemia and she will be undergoing the surgery in a few weeks time.” I continued, my voice tinged with urgency. “I know you’ll love her when she visits. Please, let her come stay with us for a few days. It would mean the world to me. There's little record of those who survived leukaemia operation, please let me stay with her before it finally happens.”
