- “Argh—” Nicole felt a sharp sting at the back of her neck. Her head spun slightly, a painful groan escaping her lips. She reached back, massaging the sore spot, trying to ease the throbbing ache.
- Slowly, Nicole’s eyes fluttered open. Her blurry vision adjusted as she glanced around, realizing she was inside a large room dimly lit by a faint lamp. Fear shadowed her face when she recognized it as an unfamiliar place she had never seen before.
- Nicole’s body trembled, anxiety creeping deep inside her chest, but she forced herself to stay calm. The dim light, at least, kept her from drowning in complete darkness.
