Chapter 26 A Deep, Lingering Wound
- “Thanks for bringing me back. Next time something happens, just call my assistant. Don’t waste your energy on me.” Nicole’s voice was icy as she spoke to Oliver, who sat behind the wheel. She refused to look at him, her gaze fixed out the car window as if she couldn’t bear to meet his eyes.
- Oliver had just dropped Nicole off at her London hotel. She made it clear she didn’t want him to help her anymore when she was in trouble—she didn’t want to hear him asking for payback. Yesterday was enough; she’d indulged Oliver’s whims, but she wouldn’t get caught up in his madness again.
- “Go ahead and get out. You need to rest. Don’t go straight to work—your health isn’t fully recovered yet. Take a few days off. You can get back to work after that.” Oliver ignored what Nicole had just said.
