Chapter 89 Luke's Call

  • The Shaws. Luke pulled to a stop in a remote area. He waited for a long time, but nobody entered the mansion or came out. He lapsed into thoughtful rumination, his finger hovering over his phone's keypad. He had vowed not to get in touch with Susan any more. His father's death destroyed their relationship, no matter how much they loved one another. He had his own family now, and Susan did too. Even though he knew he shouldn't call, he couldn't put his phone down when he considered Susan alone with those vile rumors.
  • He thought for a bit more, and then his fingers started to move. It was something he couldn't forget, even if he had erased Susan's phone number. Everything about Susan seemed so familiar and hard to forget as soon as he was able to recall it. His pulse pounded with excitement when the phone connected. Whether Susan had already changed her phone number or not was unknown to him. Susan was working on her design draft while holding the mouse. Her phone rang abruptly, causing her to look from her computer to her phone before she froze. The phone number belongs to Luke. He hadn't phoned her since he lost his memory, so why did he call her today?
  • After a brief moment of hesitation, Susan finally answered the phone. On the other end of the phone, there was silence. Susan remained silent and squeezed her lips together. She didn't know what to talk about, after all. After a lengthy moment, Luke broke the stalemate by opening his mouth. "Susie, are you okay?" It was really a standard welcome, but that didn't stop Susan from picking up on the seeming tremor in his voice. Susan had an odd sensation that sprang from her heart. She responded to the query with a low intonation, "Yeah, I'm fine."
