• The bungalow lights were bright at the Shaws' house. Susan was astounded to see how exquisitely arranged the living room was when she first entered. Fresh flowers adorned the window sills and the coffee table. In the center of the dinner table was an elaborate cake. It appeared to be a celebration of someone's birthday. A celebration of a birthday? Susan felt her heart quiver. She could not take her eyes off Julian. "This birthday cake, Julian..."
• She could feel her heart pounding quickly at that time. In fact, Julian had already planned for her birthday and was aware that today was her special day.
