- I could not believe that elder Tobias tried to stall me. What did he have in mind? The question that popped into my mind each time I recalled how he stood there and talked to me. My mind soon wandered off his path and took to the path of my mother, the dream I had.
- The chariot sped down the winding roads toward my mother’s pack, but I couldn’t feel the speed. I couldn’t feel the wind on my face, or the rocking of the wheels beneath me. All I could feel was the way that dreams clung to me, like vines twisting around my throat, tighter with every breath.
