Chapter 2 The Call

  • She followed her mentor down to the basement in silence as they entered the elevator, he looked over at her, “Your parents or brothers contacted you any?”
  • “No…. seems no matter what I do that I never can please them.”
  • Professor Graham had believed that his friends would indeed take care of her needs, but he also knew that she was never to fit in this world. Those who were close to her would never understand her and because she searched to please her family, it was resistance to conform that made her an outcast.
  • Your parents and brothers do love you, they are very demanding and can be at times hard to deal with.”
  • Yeah but I shouldn't have to plead and beg for their attention, though.”
  • “Sometimes greatness isn't about conforming but being ready to go against the tides till we understand ourselves. Accept the fact you have a chance now to do something for yourself, even if you stand alone. You will not back down. Look at me, I use to walk and run and now my body isn't like it used to be because of one drunk driver. I could pity myself and my situation, however, I rose above it. Your parents measure greatness by achieving fame and power, greatness is taking your fears and adapting to overcome them. Some are meant to fly in flocks, while others soar above the clouds and stand alone. You, my dear, must learn to fly like an eagle, and never below your station. Now, enough of me being a motor mouth dearie, come your adventure is about to start if you are ready for what could be your moment.”
  • “You sound very excited, have you created a time machine, or is this a way to get me to go on another expedition?”
  • “Still holding the trip to Antarctica over my head?”
  • “You sent me there for something that supposedly didn't exist and then when I found some sort of substance, you never told me what I found.”
  • “I had to do nearly two full years of studying the material, using its properties to the fullest before letting you in on what was going on. I have had a few people within the government wanting to see my new invention. However, it's not new. Instead, I have been working on this for a very long time even before you were born. It was a few years ago that I was running low on material and I needed to find something stronger. Sending you to that area, I knew I could trust you to find it. My other machines were not as strong, so thanks to your discovery, I have been able to improve this machine. You are the first to see it and you are the last because this is one trip that I cannot go on. I am offering you an opportunity to take your research and studies to a new level. However, you don't have very long to decide for there are others that have been searching for this machine and I cannot let them get a hold of the research. They claim that they want to fix this world and turn back the hands of time, but humans destroy what we don't understand."
  • She looked at the machine, and then back at her mentor, "Are you saying that I might not come back?" He looked sad, something that her family had never shown her. Finally, he answered her, "That is the downside of this venture. You can stay here and try to earn your family's love and learn to conform, but we both know, you are not like others. The other choice is, you go on this venture and see what you are made of, though you can never come back home, everything you have wondered about and dreamt about, the missing part of you. You will find and you'll never doubt the choices you made."
  • She was thinking over everything he was saying because she had excelled in many things but she felt for a very long time there was something in her own life. She thought about everything from the moment she was in the University, how others treated her because she had done things differently. She thought about the time she was in Bootcamp, how everyone was tired at the end but she couldn't enough. Finally, in the last couple of years, her own family had rejected her because she didn't fit into their world. She wanted to live off-grid and find her way and here was the chance to learn first-hand and not have to go to dig sites and figure out what was what. Yes, deep down she loved her family but it was time for her to step into her own, take the chance to do more, and not be held back, any longer.
  • "I'll do it. What must I do then?"
  • "Roger will take you and help you pick out what you are going to need for this venture, to survive, and remember what Roger had trained you for all those years. It was to prepare you for this very moment. I have to get a few things prepared before we start the process. Remember, this my dear. You were meant to fly amongst the eagles not to fly with the geese or keep your head down like the chickens."
  • She knew there was more but he didn't go into it. She could tell he was hiding something, but now was not the time to ask. She had forty minutes to get everything and then back to the lab. Graham waited for her and Roger to leave before he made his contact.

  • "She is being prepared now."
  • "You know when you made this call that the government is going to find your location, right?"
  • "Once she leaves, you prepare yourself. You know that you and Roger are to leave right after her if he gets caught..."
  • "I know what I have to do. Setting time now, my location is now on stealth. You have less than an hour to get her out of there and blow up everything."
  • He set his watch as well, "Everything is on a timer, by the way, Ina. Remember she will need to find her father, don't be too late."
  • He hung up as the other end went dead, he began making serums that would be put into her bag along with his booklet and notes, then he went over to the chest. Her blades were never to be touched by human hands, he quickly wrapped them up along with her gear that belonged to the woman he had found that fateful day. Who would have ever thought it would be his friends that he gave them a daughter would cause so much trouble? How they learned that their daughter was different. However, as he grinned, he smashed and destroyed everything before going into hiding. They still didn't know everything, but now, he hoped he had done enough for damage control. His life's work was about to up in smoke, but the day he came across Elvinia, he knew that he was accepting a responsibility that was going to change his life. She did not disappoint him, he would have loved to have her as a daughter, though he couldn't be the one to keep her. He at least got to watch her grow up. He quickly filled the syringe with the contents that he was ordered to do, once she was ready to go back home. He set the machine not for the Bronze age as he had told her. Instead, he put in the code for this would be her last moments on Earth. He was sending her to another realm, where hopefully Ina and Roger wouldn't be too far behind so that she would finally meet her father. He remembered the promise he had made once he accepted to protect as the woman died in his arms. Into the machine, he placed her weapons and gear in the case then his work and everything she would need to learn who and what she was. He quickly went over the formula making sure that he had everything set before she came in with her bag of supplies. Roger who was behind her went ahead and put her things into the machine then closed the cubby hole until she arrived at the location where the machine had been set to go. She was wearing a corset that was leather and it was plated with steel underneath, and she wore matching armored pants. Her arms were exposed as her mentor begin to work quickly. As every minute passed, he had to beat the clock, just as Roger injected her with the black substance. She felt the burning going through her, and then Graham was injecting her with four more serums. As she was dozing off, she heard her mentor's voice right before she fell asleep.
  • “These concoctions that you are taking are necessary because they will keep you strong against illnesses and other things. I know you'll protect my life’s work, and even though it’s no longer safe for you here, anymore. Hold on to your prayers dear child and remember even though your family didn't accept you, in my eyes, you were always my child. Find your happiness child and do not look back."
  • Though she couldn't respond as the serums were coursing through her body, a few tears rolled down the corner of her eyes. Then she out. He was far from down as Roger looked at him, "We have ten minutes left."
  • "I know. Get me that syringe is filled with the blue substance."

  • "Is this the blood from her mother?"
  • "Yes, this will awaken her blood, thanks to her mother's sacrifice, her legacy."
  • "That black serum, you are lucky I had two left so that you could inject her with that one. Why didn't you tell her who she was?"
  • "She has lost all of her only because it was the only to protect her from her mother's killer. She has to find her way back to the land of her people, hopefully, she will find her father. Did you set all of the devices where they are to be placed?"
  • "I did. What is next?"
  • Graham watched Elvinia making sure she was stable then looked at Roger, "I am going back up because you know what to do from here. Time is almost up and you remember the back way out, make sure once you press the button, get the hell out of here."
  • Graham headed back up and was back at the security room as his staff was quickly getting things gathered and wanting to make sure they didn't forget their boss when on the screen they saw the red dots coming to the mansion. Graham knew that he wouldn't leave here alive, so he forced everyone to get out quickly. Every second passed as the red dots were coming closer. Once the serum was finally emptied into her system, she was showing that she was both stable and her body was accepting the serum. He moved quickly picking her up and placing her body into the pod. He went ahead and snapped on her wrist a device that would help her find her way. She didn't know that she was more than just another person, she was a product of two unions that were never supposed to be, and he knew she would be hunted or she would be used if anyone found out who she was. That was why Graham did what he did to keep her from those she called family. Graham didn't want them to know where she was and he had fixed it so that they couldn't find her. Though it was harsh for she believed her family had turned their back, it was for her safety that Graham had kept ahead. He knew that her family wanted to find out what she was and he had a very special promise to keep.

  • Once, the launch sequence was activated he quickly exited the chamber. He watched the pod being moved off the pad and bright lights were flashing letting him know that it was now time for him to leave the chamber. In her pod, she would have everything she would need to find her way. He was the only one to know exactly where she was going when he pulled up the map of that period. He hoped that he had everything written down and had everything she was going to need.

  • Roger was on his way out when he saw the vehicles driving for it was the government finally catching up with Professor Graham. He started running trying not to be seen, but he had been spotted as he ran through the woods. He had to get away for he knew too much and he knew what was waiting for him if he got caught. Back in the chamber once the pod vanished the chamber and everything in the lab was burning once the explosion was going off. They had pegged the activity finally they got a link. It was just six months when they learned about the possible time machine. When the couple learned that their daughter wasn't of this world, they tried to get her to come into the labs, but they were unable to find her. The agents learned that Graham had caused a lot of damage keeping them away from Elvinia and the machine. Thanks to the mole they had planted they were able to see the machines that Professor Graham had used both from his first time traveling back into time; up to a year ago. Once, the alert was given, they were given the go-ahead. Their mission was to get the woman and the machine back to the lab. Both were very important, and both needed to be studied.

  • She watched as the mansion went up in flames, she saw the gunfight and saw Roger getting taken. the trip back to her homeland was going to be placed on hold, for a while. Because, she couldn't leave without Roger who was Egon, so now it was up to her to find out where they were going to take him. Then she had to find a way to get him out, so it was going to take her some time. She and he were the only other ones who were not from this planet, now that Elvinia was sent back. She had to admit that she was going to miss Graham, he came into the scene, in the middle of a war. He helped an innocent baby that he didn't have to, but he did. Though her ears had to be fixed to pass her off as a human baby. Ina was ordered to keep watch over the girl until it was time. Ina didn't care too much about the family that had taken in Elvinia. It was the name given to the child with her mother's dying words, a child of elven blood who would be the weapon to fight the evil that was causing so much chaos, in their world. Ina left the scene before she too was spotted, though she wanted to use her magic on this plane, she knew it would only cause more issues if she couldn't get to Egon. She didn't need any more attention on this event. She only prayed that Elvinia would be okay until they got back to their realm. Elvinia would be on her own until then. Ina hoped that they could get to her before the girl revealed her true nature. She knew Andreas was counting on her to keep his daughter safe when he had asked her to join Graham, who was now dead. She had to keep Wolf's daughter safe. In a flash, she left without looking back. She knew getting Egon out of wherever they were going to take him was going to take some time.
  • Roger whose real name was Egon was struggling with those holding him down, till they injected him with a dose to knock him out. They put on a black hood over his head so that in case he woke up, he wouldn't know where he was. Though the other agents stayed at the mansion, cleaning up the mess leaving no other who could tell the tale of what had happened here today. Ina drove behind the dark blue van, though she was behind them, they, however, couldn't detect her as she sped keeping up with them until they led her to where they were going. It was going to be a drive wherever they were going. This wasn't in the plans, however, she had to admit the humans had a saying she learned was very true: Murphy's law was truly a bitch, not just karma.
