Chapter 11 Monster Hunting Begins

  • He didn’t say much for they were being watched by those in the encampment, the lot of them looked frightened not to mention the fear in their eyes. Elvinia walking beside Baldr, she felt they must have been a sight, for here was the giant of a man who stood well over six feet and five inches, and she felt like a midget, though she stood five feet and six inches, at an average size. She didn't say a word because her accent was very much different and they would think her strange. However, Baldr's voice was low a cross between German and Norwegian dialects, but the main thing was that he didn't stand out as she would. Everything she had ever studied wasn’t too off while Baldr spoke to the one that appeared to be the leader of the battered group. Baldr motioned for her to follow once they had tied their horses to the post. They were back at the tent where they were told what had been going on, that the Jarl's men left leaving the people to their fate. The Jarl's advisor hadn't believed the miners when they told their Jarl about the giant spiders and the other creatures that were attacking the miners, and now they couldn't work to feed their families, not to mention the fact they were abandoned. While Baldr listened a few of the men were watching Elvinia, she was a sight for any man who wasn't dead from the waist down. Elvinia waited for the word so that she could prepare once they had reached a price for the job. The leader of the encampment held out a bag of coins of gold and silver and a few gems. Once the price was settled Baldr and she headed to the horses where she took off her hood and then set up her crossbows, and on her back her shorthand blades, though Baldr had his battle-axe he too also had a bow and his quivers. He put on his helmet which didn't completely cover his face, but looking at him she could feel her heart flutter. She removed the cloak but left the hood with the face mask leaving her eyes to be seen. In both her hands she carried her crossbows in each, they were locked and ready to be fired when the action was started.
  • Into the mouth of the mine, the two walked in without hesitation, she took point because her crossbows could clear the way so that he could rush in. He hunched down and she locked herself into place holding up the crossbows in two different directions. The scampering sounds were faint, but that was a lie for they knew it wasn't what they heard to be on guard. It was the silence that kept them on their toes, down at their feet Elvinia saw the remains of those who had been drained.
