Chapter 10 A New Life

  • Viggo not returning any look toward his little sister, they had been close when their older brother, Baldr was traveling with the others. For a time, it was just them until Viggo was of age to go to sea, leaving behind his little sister to learn from their mother, all the ways of being a lady of the court. Here his sister was, not a little girl but a young woman trying to find her way in a world so cold. Although he had always cared for her and to be honest, it disturbed him knowing she was going to marry another, some man that didn't love her as she deserved. She was promised to a man only for the gain of power much like their father. He hadn't thought about marrying anyone, even when he was given an order, he couldn't see himself with anyone because he wanted a woman like his mother or sister, soft-spoken but unyielding too. Her ginger hair, which was lighter than his golden brown hair, her eyes like honey on a warm sunny day and her skin was like ivory sand. He had to look away because what could he say for they were brother and sister then again their people were known to marry cousins and they had family that married sisters and brothers, though it didn't happen as often. However, he wanted his sister to be happy and because she was young and hadn't been in the world like he had. That maybe she would want another, he tried saying that but for some odd reason, the words didn't come out for him to say to her. His fingers pushed her strands of hair out of her face so that he could see her face, "Don't you want to find someone that is different and that isn't of our blood?"
  • "I don't want another. Baldr acts more like a brother, but many times I have seen you with other women and you are never satisfied, either. I wish I was one of them to be held by you, I haven't said anything before because I thought I was going to marry Adalwolf but now I know that it is fate that gave me a chance to have real love, even if it's with my brother. The night you and I were dancing, you looked different than all the other times, and you didn't look away or look at another woman though they were watching and wanting you."
  • He was about to say something, anything to put a wall up because deep down he didn't want children or a family mainly he didn't want his father's line to continue. Again, he couldn't think of any words to say that would make her want to push him away. He could only see her eyes, how beautiful they were looking at him as though he was the only one she saw. Her lips were full but it was her innocent stare that enchanted him, pulling him and he faltering. He kissed her forehead and held her, "We will talk more later. For now, gets some sleep."
