- The darkness pressed around me, thick and suffocating. My vision blurred, but I knew where I was—back in the memory I’d tried so hard to bury. The smell of blood, sharp and metallic, filled my lungs. I turned, heart pounding, as I saw my parents lying lifeless, their faces pale in the dim light, eyes wide and staring into nothingness. A familiar chill ran down my spine.
