• Selene slipped into her bed just as the sun began to peek over the horizon. She lay still, feigning sleep, as she heard footsteps approach her room. She felt her father’s presence as he quietly opened the door. Zeus stood there for a moment, likely checking to see if she was still in bed. After a few seconds, he closed the door softly, and Selene let out a breath she didn’t realize she’d been holding.
• When morning fully broke, the peaceful quiet she’d managed to cling to evaporated quickly. From her room, she could hear shouts and hurried footsteps echoing through the hallways. She rose, already dressed, and peeked out her door. Outside, she could see members of the pack house moving urgently, faces drawn with tension and worry.
