Chapter 103 A Heart Beneath The Cold
- The weeks passed in a haze of routine and familiarity. Selene adjusted to her classes, to her group of friends, and even, strangely, to the presence of Maris. Though he remained distant and cold, the mystery surrounding him kept her intrigued. He’d sit alone during lunch, always quiet, eyes downcast, as if he couldn’t be bothered with the noise around him.
- One chilly afternoon, the cafeteria was buzzing with laughter and chatter as usual. Selene and Lydia were seated at their usual spot by the windows, talking about the upcoming exams, when they noticed Jared saunter over to Maris’s table. Jared had always been loud and obnoxious, but Selene couldn’t help but feel a pang of worry as he approached Maris.
- Lydia nudged her. “Oh no… Jared’s heading for him.”
