  • Silently, Cynthia stood in the yard, looking at the boy gently helping the little girl into the house. After covering her under the sheets, he gave her forehead a peck before walking out of the house and softly shutting the old, broken door. As Cynthia observed him, she couldn’t help but feel moved, and even a little jealous of the little girl for having such a loving brother.
  • When the boy walked to Cynthia, he quietly lowered his head, looking at his chilly thumbs. As he did so, he fetched two wooden stools to give his “guests” a seat while he himself sat on the ground.
  • Cynthia searched her bag and found that her photograph with her mother remained intact. She then heaved a sigh of relief as she put it back into the bag. She turned to the insecure boy and let out a soft chuckle before tenderly inquiring, “What happened to you two?”
