Chapter 7 Be My Lover

  • “Oh, really? Was she trying to wash her sins away with her own blood?” Cynthia raised her eyebrows with a smile. “Is she dead now, or is she still breathing? If she is dead, I’ll forgive her.”
  • “You…” Larry grew furious. “How could you say something so wicked?”
  • “I’m wicked?” Cynthia felt as if her heart had been stabbed with a knife, shaking in sadness from head to toe. “If I’m wicked, I’m second to that b*tch, Shirley!”
  • When Cynthia and Shirley first enrolled in the same university, they were both assigned to the same dormitory with another girl. Cynthia’s outstanding appearance and extroverted personality, not to mention her influential family, made her especially popular among the rich guys. On the other hand, Shirley hailed from an ordinary village and had a personality that was totally the opposite of Cynthia’s. Thus, she always followed Cynthia wherever she went. While Cynthia was happy because she thought she found herself a trusted confidante, she was later disappointed by her discovery that Shirley was only warming up to her to get to her then-boyfriend.
  • “Enough, Cynthia! This is all my fault! Because of you, Shirley has been avoiding me all the time throughout the year. I know you hate her, but she’s never forgotten you as her friend…”
  • Seeing Larry defending Shirley, Cynthia unleashed her pent-up frustration and flipped out. “Enough with your nonsense, Larry! I didn’t come back here to listen to your story with Shirley. In fact, I have zero interest in both of you because you and I have become strangers ever since the moment we broke up! So when you see me again, you’d better pretend that you don’t know me. I want nothing to do with you anymore!”
  • Cynthia turned around and walked away as soon as she finished her words. Although it had only just been one year since they broke up, she managed to drop Larry like a potato and move on. After all, she had always been someone who was forward-looking and led her life with no regrets.
  • In response to the lady’s outburst, Larry reacted with anger. “After everything that happened to you, you’re still so arrogant, aren’t you, Cynthia? You had no place in the White Family, even though you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth. Now that you’ve been cast away by your family, you still act like you’re the most important person in the world. You’re a fake woman who knows nothing but coyness. Despite how you said you loved me, you can’t even forgive one mistake that I made. From the way I see it, you don’t really love me that much either. You were probably just using me to stay away from your stepmother.”
  • Upon hearing Larry’s shameless words, Cynthia was ironically amused. “Haha. You know what? You’re right! I was using you to get myself out of my lousy family. That nearly slipped my mind until you brought it up again. Guess you weren’t entirely useless at all.”
  • “Are you asking for trouble, Cynthia?” Larry’s face became malevolent as he pinched her chin hard.
  • However, Cynthia fearlessly shook off Larry’s hand and replied in a nonchalant voice, “What do you think you’re doing, Larry? Do you really think I’m still your girlfriend whom you can just lecture?”
  • With his face twisted in annoyance, Larry gawked at Cynthia and refuted her. “What a b*tch! Why would I even fall for you in the first place? You’re not even a tenth of who Shirley is, and you only deserve to be her servant!”
  • Larry’s derogatory insults cut Cynthia’s heart like sharp blades, but she brushed off the pain and responded with witty repartee. “Likewise. I must have been blinded when I first laid my eyes on you, because any man is better than you in every way.”
  • “I dare you to say that again, b*tch!” Larry clenched his jaw and jerked her.
  • Not expecting the man to get physical with her, Cynthia dropped her mother’s memorial tablet onto the ground, which made a loud crunch that drew everybody else’s attention. At that moment, the other guests in the lobby set their eyes on the unusual item on the floor and got closer to investigate it.
  • “Ah! What’s that?
  • “That looks like someone’s memorial tablet.”
  • “Come on! Why would anyone carry something like this with her?”
  • Soon, murmurs of gossip filled the atmosphere as Cynthia quickly examined the tablet to see whether it was damaged. Thankfully, the tablet was still intact. Nonetheless, Larry responded with a strange expression on his face. “Are you nuts or something, Cynthia? How can you carry something like that around like it's your mobile?”
  • While Cynthia glared at the man in a hateful manner with a pair of bloodshot eyes, Larry sniggered and said, “It looks like there is not even a place for your mother’s memorial tablet ever since your dad cast you away from home. Maybe I can help you with that. For our old times’ sake, I’ll get you a place for you to keep your mother’s tablet while you become my lover. What do you think?”
  • As Cynthia was ticked off by the man’s provocative remark, her rage got the better of her and took over her rational mind. Thus, she raised her hand in the air and slapped him in the face. “Get out my face, scum!” Cynthia angrily berated Larry, apparently shaking from head to toe.
  • At that moment, the hotel manager, Glenn Miller, arrived with two security guards behind him. In fact, he received a report about someone who came to the hotel with a memorial tablet. For the sake of his hotel’s business, he didn’t want anything that could jinx their operations. However, he was skeptical about the report until he saw the tablet in Cynthia’s arm. Thus, his face changed as he said, “I’m sorry, Miss, but can you please take this away from the hotel? I’m sorry if my request causes any inconvenience to you, but we have to be considerate to the other guests in this hotel, so i-it’s kind of… inappropriate for you to keep your memorial tablet here.”
  • In the meantime, Cynthia knew it wasn’t appropriate for her to keep the memorial tablet with her in the hotel. Nonetheless, she wanted to protect her late mother’s honor, refusing to leave her tablet with the White Family, who might just throw it away like some trash even though she had no place to go.
  • “Miss, please don’t make this difficult for me, or I’ll be forced to show you the door.” Glenn helplessly persuaded Cynthia to give in.
  • On the other hand, Larry stood aside and watched coldly, while the other bystanders were disgusted with Cynthia. After all, no one wanted to stay in the same hotel with a dead person’s memorial tablet while suffering from nightmares in their sleep.
  • Soon, a man entered the hotel without everyone else noticing his arrival. Wearing a decent black suit, he radiated an aristocratic aura that was further accentuated by his good looks and chiseled facial features. In the face of his indescribable charm, some of the ladies among the crowd began to whisper in excitement as if they had been cast with a spell. Meanwhile, Cynthia didn’t realize what was going on, only hugging her late mother’s memorial tablet when she was about to turn around and leave. Nevertheless, just as she took a few steps forward, a soothing and magnetic voice wafted through the crowd. “Who says she can’t bring a memorial tablet into the hotel?”
