Chapter 15 The Ignorant Clown

  • Cynthia soon followed the guide to the exhibition venue on the third floor. Most of the guests had already gathered there, including those from the fashion industry as well.
  • Seeing that the dress she had designed was displayed in a showcase, she finally broke into a satisfied smile.
  • There were many people taking pictures near the showcase and they all looked like they were either reporters or photographers attached to fashion magazines.
  • The flashes that came from the multitude of cameras around her were exceptionally dazzling.
  • Cynthia’s dress that was on display was in a shade of blue as dark as the night sky, which perfectly contrasted with the sparkly white crystals sewn throughout it like shining stars. The deep V neckline was a bold attempt while the hem only reached the ankles to make the wearer more slender.
  • Thus, it was unimaginable how astounding this dress would look on a woman when, in actual fact, it was a rather simple dress. However, it had clean and unobstructed lines with the starry effects being produced by countless crystals in all sizes. Those crystals that sparkled whenever the light landed on them were like mysterious stars in the universe. Moreover, the skirt and cuffs were hemmed with narrow embroidered silk, which lent a subtle elegance to the dress.
  • While looking at the perfect combination of these elements, the people standing around couldn't help but express their admiration.
  • “What a beautiful dress! I don't think there are any words to describe its beauty.”
  • “This dress would definitely overshadow everything around it.”
  • “Yes, it’s as expected of the most famous and important chief designer under Lewis Incorporated. This dress is so beautiful!”
  • “I heard that Miss Wendy will also be coming today. She has been hiding behind the scenes all this time. Today, we’re finally lucky enough to meet her.”
  • ...
  • As Cynthia heard the group of beautifully dressed people near the showcase admiring her and her work, she felt a little embarrassed.
  • She had designed this dress in the past on a whim and she never thought it would be exhibited here. Moreover, there were so many people around her who praised it, so she couldn't help but interject.
  • “Actually, this dress is not that good because there are still some flaws. If two buttons are added to the chest area while some traditional elements are added to the waist, its elegance will be heightened along with the wearer’s charm...”
  • Everyone around her was surprised when they heard what she said.
  • Some of the attendees who understood fashion looked at the dress and thought that Cynthia was right: adding some elements could really allow the dress to stand out even more. Thus, several people couldn't help but look at her in a different manner while casting glances of admiration. It seems that she is someone who understands fashion exceptionally well.
  • Of course, not everyone understood fashion. Most people thought that Cynthia was too bold to even comment on the work that Miss Wendy had designed. Therefore, disdain began to surface in their eyes.
  • At that moment, the expressions of those around were different.
  • Shirley also came to see the dress, so naturally, she had heard Cynthia's words from among the crowd and wondered, How dare Cindy say something like that! I haven’t taken my revenge for what happened just now. See if I can’t humiliate you now!
  • Of course, considering Shirley's previous identity, she was naturally one of those who did not understand fashion, so she was full of disdain and ridicule for what Cynthia had said.
  • She walked up and took Cynthia's hand before responding with a smile, “Cindy, what are you saying? Everyone here knows that this dress was designed by Master Wendy. Do you know who Master Wendy is? She is the most famous and important chief designer under Lewis Incorporated. She has only made her debut for a year, yet she has made a big splash in New York Fashion Week with her unique design concept. Now, not only is our domestic media competing for the chance to interview her, but even those international media as well...”
  • Shirley kept touting how great Master Wendy was and tried using the woman’s fame to show how knowledgeable she was while mocking Cynthia's naivety and ignorance. However, Shirley didn't know that the Master Wendy whom she spoke of was standing right in front of her.
  • When Cynthia heard that, she calmly pulled her hand out from Shirley’s grip and looked at Shirley, thinking that she was merely a clown. However, she didn't want to expose Shirley because why should she explain herself to someone like Shirley?
  • Thus, when Cynthia said nothing, Shirley felt that she had exposed Cynthia’s ignorance and arrogantly looked at Cynthia. When the surrounding guests who were disdainful of Cynthia’s earlier remarks had heard Shirley’s words, they immediately started to talk.
  • “She’s just an ignorant clown who dares to comment on Miss Wendy's work.”
  • “Young people really don’t know what’s good for them!”
  • ...
  • The people around them then started to constantly ridicule Cynthia. Those who thought that her proposal was a good idea didn’t speak up since there were many important figures here and couldn’t afford to offend them.
  • In the face of their comments, ridicule and stares, she chose to turn a blind eye and automatically tuned out the surrounding discussions. While she looked at Shirley’s smugness, she knew what Shirley was up to since they were once best friends.
  • Cynthia sneered, “Shirley, why don’t you improve your skills instead of constantly doing shady things like this?”
  • Her phone rang right after she finished speaking. Then, she glanced at Shirley before turning to leave to answer the call, which caused Shirley to grimly stare at her back.
  • Soon, Cynthia answered the phone, only to hear a gentle and polite voice. “Hello, is this Miss Wendy? I'm the assistant for the president of Lewis Incorporated. Have you arrived at the exhibition site? If so, I'll send someone to receive you right away.”
  • “I've already arrived at the venue. Since I’ll be coming over in a moment, you don't have to bother to send someone,” she replied before she hung up the call as she didn't want to trouble others.
  • As she kept the phone away, she turned around in the direction of the restroom.
  • On the other hand, Charles had also kept her phone away and heaved a sigh of relief before he respectfully reported the news to the stern man next to him. “Sir, Miss Wendy says that she has arrived at the venue and will come over in a moment, but...”
  • “But what?”
  • “She’s refused to let our staff head over to receive her,” he replied.
  • When James heard that the woman had already arrived, his grim expression finally relaxed a bit. “Since she has arrived, go and prepare to bring the guests in.”
  • Charles quickly responded and began to allow the guests to enter the venue.
