Chapter 13 A Fallen Angel

  • The manager took a closer look at Cynthia and noticed that she was quite well-dressed. Although the end of her skirt was above her knees, the delicate lace at the hem had made up for the short length while enhancing its design. Moreover, her subtle but exquisite makeup was rarely seen nowadays. Thus, the manager really did not want to believe that the woman in front of him had sneaked into the venue and she was not supposed to be here.
  • However, he recognized Shirley.
  • Shirley was someone whom Larry had brought over, so she didn’t appear like someone who would lie. Hence, the manager said to Cynthia, “Miss, I'm sorry, but if you don't have an invitation, please leave immediately. If you don't leave, we may ask the security to come forward.”
  • Cynthia glanced at the manager before turning to Shirley whereupon she noticed the successful smile on Shirley’s face. Although it was not obvious, it was something that Cynthia had noticed.
  • With a cold glance at Shirley, she began explaining to the manager, "Sir, I'm sorry. I don’t have an invitation, but I’m not trying to sneak in. I'm Lewis Incorporated’s—"
  • At that point, Shirley interrupted Cynthia and pretended to plead with the manager. "Sir, we know each other. I know that she didn't mean it, so I apologize on her behalf. Please give her another chance and don't call the security. I'll persuade her to immediately leave."
  • As she watched Shirley's pretentious performance, Cynthia thought it was an exceptionally disgusting move while looking at Shirley indifferently in the silence.
  • By this point, Shirley had been gone for a long time and hadn’t returned, which caused Larry to think that something had happened to her. As such, he came out to look for her and found three people talking instead. So, he walked over.
  • He was a little surprised to notice that Cynthia was also there. Then, he was calm once again as he asked, "What's the matter?"
  • When the manager saw Larry coming, he called out, "Young Master Larry."
  • Upon seeing Larry, Shirley deliberately stepped forward and affectionately held his hand in front of Cynthia before she spoke softly, "Larry, you came in the nick of time. I just met Cynthia outside. She doesn’t have an invitation. I originally wanted to invite her in, but she didn't want my assistance. Then, I met her again earlier, but the manager found out about her presence and I was apologizing on her behalf."
  • Bits and pieces of the past appeared in Cynthia's mind. She looked at the couple putting on a show in front of her with disgust and felt her stomach churning. Looking at such a pretentious Shirley, Cynthia wondered how she could have been so blind to have considered Shirley as her best friend in the past.
  • Cynthia was still in a daze when she suddenly heard Shirley’s voice again. "Please consider our friendship in the past and help to plead to the manager on her behalf, Larry. Don't let him chase Cynthia out, okay?"
  • When Larry heard Shirley's words, he snorted coldly. "Me? Sure; if Cynthia begs me, I’ll plead to the manager on her behalf to let her stay."
  • "Hehe, friendship?" After Cynthia had heard them speaking so boldly, she replied, "I don't remember that we were friends. Besides, I have already said earlier that we have nothing to do with each other anymore. Don't disgust me with your talk about the past."
  • An embarrassed Larry started to verbally attack her when he heard her words. "Are you any better? Aren’t you also the type to suck up to men? It hasn’t been long and you’ve already been abandoned by the man? Do you want to consider what I have said in the hotel previously? If you can accept it, you are welcome to come anytime."
  • She listened to his sarcastic words without saying a word and merely turned her head. As it stood, she didn’t want to talk to this disgusting man in front of her at all.
  • As for Shirley, she felt discomfiture while listening to Larry's words. It was only then did she realize that Cynthia and Larry had already met before.
  • Although Shirley was upset, she still asked calmly, "Larry, what are you talking about? Will you tell me?"
  • He was also aware that he couldn't allow Shirley to know what he had said to Cynthia, so he simply answered, "It's nothing. I’m just saying that she can look for me if she runs into any trouble!"
  • After he finished speaking, he gently kissed Shirley's forehead. Shirley knew that it was not appropriate for her to continue with her questions, so she fell silent at this moment.
  • When Cynthia heard what Larry had answered, she thought it was hilarious and sneered, "What? Young Master Larry, do you not dare to admit your lust for women? Shirley, speaking of which, I also have you to thank for taking this scum away from me.”
  • As he listened to her sarcasm, his expression darkened a bit before he jibed, "Cynthia, do you think you are still the young mistress of the White Family and the apple of your parents’ eyes? Even your own biological father has abandoned you, so what else do you have? You are only a fallen angel; you deserve to be looked down upon by everyone."
  • Cynthia could no longer suppress her anger as her face became gloomy when she heard what Larry had said. When she was about to slap him, a low and sexy voice suddenly sounded from behind them.
  • "Who said she deserves to be looked down upon? How dare you gossip about my woman!”
  • It was James who asked in an unusually cold voice, which shocked everyone. He came over and wrapped his arm naturally around Cynthia's waist. She had shifted a little with slight embarrassment because he was hugging her a little too close for comfort
  • "Let me," she said in such a low voice that only two of them could hear it.
  • "No. If you want to see how humiliated they will be, don’t move," he said wickedly.
  • Knowing that the man in front of them had that kind of power and coupled with the desire to watch Larry and Shirley being humiliated, Cynthia stopped struggling.
  • At that point, Larry recognized James when he looked at James. Isn't he the man from that hotel? I didn’t expect him to be here!
  • When the manager who had not spoken up for some time saw James, he nodded and bowed quickly before respectfully greeting, "Young Master James."
  • James glanced around with cold eyes, which sent shivers down the manager’s spine. "This is backstage. How can anyone just enter here? As a manager, you have allowed many people to cause such a scene here. Don’t you still want your job?" His icy voice was particularly chilly in a quiet environment like now.
  • "Sorry, sorry... Young Master James, I will tell them to leave immediately." The manager was breaking out in cold sweat.
  • Then, he prepared to drive Larry and Shirley out of the venue.
