Chapter 40

• Derek walked into the clubhouse, his heart was in so much pain, he was such a fool, he had badly wanted to believe that she was saying the truth, he wanted to believe anything that would make the pain in his heart go away, so he had chosen to follow her blindly, hoping that he sees proof that spells her Innocence, wasn't he laughable? She had deceived him, he had caught her red-handed with another man on their supposed matrimonial bed, had heard their plans on how they would swindle money from him and be together, what other proof of betrayal did he want? She killed their child in the process and he still found himself hoping there was an element of truth in her claim but as usual, all he got was lies, he stared at the Brandy that had been placed in front of him, not bothering to pour into a glass, he drank directly from the bottle and didn't stop until he drank at least half of it, he felt the drink hot his throat down his chest, he welcomed the heat, the scorching of the drink didn't go anywhere near the pain in his heart.
• "Having a problem with wife?" Rosie walked to him sitting on his lap, he only stared at her and took another swipe from his drink, "take it easy on yourself handsome" a customer hollered her and she quickly went to attend to him.
• Derek sat alone for a while, taking his drink and ordering more bottles, his head was beginning to feel light but he kept driving, drinks have always been a getaway for him from pain, unfortunately, the pain was always still there after the effect of the drink subside, but he welcomed that temporary relief.
