• The look on Kavian’s face made guilt twist through me until it hollowed my stomach. His silence pressed down on me, heavy, accusing, as though I’d demanded something cruel and impossible of him. Wicked, selfish. And yet, were my wishes truly so unrealistic? To want to see the truth of him—the raw, unguarded part that only his changing eyes seemed to hold?
• His lips curved into something that wasn’t quite a smile, more like a resigned grimace. “So what now? You’re really going to leave me hanging like this?” His voice was low, almost teasing, but his hand dropped toward the hardness straining beneath his trousers, his brow quirking with dry amusement. “Because clearly my body didn’t get the message.”
