- “Because I don’t think Rose would want her dead,” I said quietly, my voice coming out rougher than I intended. “She cares for her son, Tristan. She wouldn’t want us to hurt his mother, even after everything she’s done.” The words tasted bitter on my tongue, because deep down, I did want to hurt that woman—for her role in all this, for the pain she’d caused Rose.
