• Kavian's POV
• I was so eager to kill Damian that I reached for his throat with my claws, but he was very lucky to slip away and his men quickly threw themselves in front of him like human shields. The air was metallic with the tang of blood and sweat; for a heartbeat I moved in a blur — cutting down his men with my bare hands alongside my brothers — muscle and intent and heat. In the chaos Damian used that opportunity to run to the safety of his army on his horse, disappearing into the press of riders like a shadow slipping between trees.
• But I knew I had to get to him and end him before he escaped, as that's the only way I can keep Rose safe, so I ran after him and my brothers, having the same mind, joined me as well. Our boots pounded the earth in a single, driving rhythm; every step was a vow. Adrenaline thinned the air until the world narrowed to the scent of horses and the glimpse of Damian’s dark coat ahead.
